Coach Ilana

8U Rec Coach

Email: [email protected]

Coach Ilana Roth grew up in Montgomery County and played for the Rockville High School Rams during her high school years.  When she left for college, she missed her time on the field and ended up playing for JMU's club team while pursuing her degree.  Ilana took a break from the field while finishing out her master's degree and then quickly signed up for Co-Ed softball leagues whenever she could!  Ilana currently coaches 8U RECC softball for Savage after her daughter found the same passion for the diamond as she did.

When not on the softball field, Ilana is a Speech Language Pathologist for MCPS.  She also spends a lot of time in the stands of her 9-year-old son's baseball games and practices, walking her two dogs, and wishing she was at the beach!

A 2016 inductee into the Bethune-Cookman Athletics Hall of Fame, Lauren McCoy recorded three 20-win seasons in the circle as Bethune-Cookman softball became a MEAC dynasty and made NCAA history in 2005. That year, she led the Lady Wildcats to the NCAA Super Regional (the first time an HBCU advanced out of the regional round), winning the Gainesville Regional and going toe-to-toe with Cat Osterman in a 1-0 defeat to Texas after earning the MEAC’s first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA field.

A three-time First Team All-MEAC honoree (2003-05), McCoy threw five no-hitters in her career, including two perfect games, and she had an ERA of 1.70 or lower in each of her three seasons.

McCoy ended her Bethune-Cookman career with 456 strikeouts and 28 shutouts. She was inducted into the MEAC Hall of Fame in 2021.

After her playing career ended, she went on to coach 10 seasons as Head Coach at Howard University in Washington DC.

She currently co-coaches at St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel with her husband Dave and focuses her time on her two daughters Cassidy (8) and Cadence (6).
