Frequently Asked Questions for Resuming Savage Basketball

Please see the list of Questions and corresponding Answers below.  Send any additional questions to
[email protected] for a response or possible inclusion in this list of Frequently Asked Questions.

Q:  What is the Savage Boys and Girls Club (SBGC) doing to prepare for the resumption of the season?

A:  The Board of SBGC and volunteer leaders (Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, League Directors, and Coaches) will be planning for a variety of different scenarios that will give players the best experience possible in a compressed season.

Q:  When will practices resume?

A:  The week of January 10th.

Q:  When will games begin?

A:  The first games will be played on Saturday, January 15th.

Q:  Will any additional Covid-19 safety protocols be put in place?

A:  We will continue to follow the practice of requiring the wearing of masks in the schools at all times by players, coaches, parents or guardians, and game spectators.  Anyone experiencing Covid symptoms such as Fever, Cough, Chills, Shortness of Breath, Loss of Taste or Smell, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, or Diarrhea should not attend practices of games.  Any player who tests positive for Covid during the season should notify the Coach and League Director as soon as possible.  The Coach will also inform the families of any other team members who might have been exposed.  We will also follow all HCPSS policies for students, including those put in place for contact tracing and quarantining - see https://www.hcpss.org/2021-2022/health-and-safety/

Q:  If a game is canceled due to not enough players available as a result of Covid19 considerations, will it be rescheduled?

A:  If we know at least 24 hours in advance that a game cannot be played due to not enough players due to Covid19, we will make every attempt to make up the game within the period of time that is available to complete the season.

Q:  Will Savage Basketball hold a Picture Day this year?  If so, what precautions will be taken to minimize the risk of further Covid-19 transmission?

A:  We will not be scheduling individual or team photographs this year.  The uncertainty of our schedule combined with the goal of keeping everyone safe has resulted in us removing this discretionary feature from our program this year.

Q:  Is there a possibility that the season will be extended beyond the end of February (Boys 13-18) or early-March for other age groups?

A:  The Boys 13-18 league will finish no later than February 28th due to the beginning of high school tryouts on March 1st.  It is possible that other age groups will be extended by 1-2 weeks.

Q:  How many games will be played in a shortened season?

A:  We are still committed to an 8 game season plus playoffs.  That may require us to extend the season by one or two weeks or play additional games in February.

Q:  Will there still be an all-star game and skills competition held at the end of the season?

A:  We still expect to hold an all-star game and skills competition for the Coed 7-8, Boys 9-10, and Boys 11-12 leagues.

Q:  What is the refund policy for Savage Basketball?

A:  We typically refund the entire registration fee prior to the close of regular registration and the formation of teams which we consider to be the start of the season.  We only provide a partial refund (registration fee minus administrative fee) once practices begin since we need to recoup expenses incurred such as insurance, background checks for coaches, equipment and supplies, and other club expenses.

Q:  Will we be receiving a partial refund in registration fees if the season is shortened?

A:  The unique nature of the situation presented by the pandemic will cause us to be as fair and reasonable as possible taking into account the expenses that we have already incurred.  SBGC has not made a final determination at this time about the nature of future refunds pending more information about the status of the remainder of the season.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
